OIC SECRETARY GENERAL CALLS ON INTL COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT PALESTINIAN RECONCILIATION

Jeddah, 26 Jumadil Akhir 1435/26 April 2014 (MINA) – The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, added that the Palestinian reconciliation is an urgent need for the protection of the higher Palestinian interests and towers above all other interests and relations.

Iyad Madani called on the international community to support the Palestinian national reconciliation efforts and provide the means for their success considering the role of such efforts in promoting peace and stability in the region.

“All efforts being made to reclaim legitimate Palestinian rights and establish the Palestinian state on the 1967 border with Al-Quds as its capital must emanate from a Palestinian entity united in its positions, decision, policies and objectives,” he said in a statement quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Iyad Madani welcomed the agreement signed by the delegations of the Palestine Liberation Organisation and the Hamas Movement on Palestinian resolution, based on agreements done in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Cairo and the Doha Declaration.

“This is a key pillar of and an important step towards restoration of unity and cohesion among the Palestinian people, which enables them confront the grave challenges imposed by the Israeli occupation and Israel’s disregard for the peace process through the settlement and blockade policy and systematic assault on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said.

The Secretary General stressed the need to quickly translate the agreement to political reality, stressing at the same time the continuous readiness of the OIC to contribute to steps which could strengthen Palestinian national unity.(T/P02/P04)
