OBAMA: US TRAINS SYRIAN OPPOSITION TROOPS IN JORDAN

Washington DC, 1 Zulqaida 1434/6 September 2013 (MINA) – According to US President Barack Obama, the US is training Syrian opposition fighters in Jordan. In the past, the Jordanian government has refuted several media reports which suggested the US was using the Jordanian territories to train Syrian fighters.

The New York Times and The Telegraph newspapers reported a joint meeting between President Obama and members of Congress, including Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, during which the US President debriefed the Congressmen on the US’s involvement in the Syrian conflict saying, “The outcome of the United States’ efforts to support the Syrian moderate opposition are showing.”

The newspapers quoted officials who attended the meeting claiming that Obama had told McCain that a cell of 50 Syrian fighters was trained by US forces in Jordan and has recently entered into Syria.

Several Western reports have also confirmed that the US has trained Syrian opposition fighters in the Jordanian territories who oppose the regime of Bashar Al-Assad. However, the Jordanian government has insisted that the reports are baseless, according to Middle East Monitor (MEMO) report monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

Meanwhile, a leaked emails have allegedly proved that the White House gave the green light to a chemical weapons attack in Syria that could be blamed on Assad’s regime and in turn, spur international military action in the devastated country.
