NO EXCUSES TO DELAY OF HALAL PRODUCTS WARRANTY

Jakarta, 4 Jumadil Awal 1435/5 March 2014 (MINA) – Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Board, KH . Maksum Machfoedz, who is also Chairman Halal Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (BHNU) said there was no reason for the delay over Halal Product Warranty (JPH) bill if its perspective is good and not full of interest .

“Actually there is no reason for the delay if the perspective is okay and not full of interest,” said Maksum Machfoedz in a press release received Miraj Islamic News Agency (MINA) on Tuesday .

According to KH . Machfoedz, if the Health Ministry delay expectations more on protecting the interests of the health sector that is not ready, it could not be used as the reason for the delay. All must be ready to meet the interests of Muslims as the majority population of Indonesia.

JPH bill (RUU JPH) must be returned to the principle that the certification is a matter of public service, such as education, health, and others. Public affairs of course is participatory and not monopolistic in this advanced era, said Maksum.

“NU with millions of its congregation demanded the right to serve its jama’ah participation,” KH . Machfoedz stressed.

He continued, state functions in this context is to set and provide standardization and regulation. The Government may regulate any institution that meets the standards of services, such as arranging schools , universities, hospitals and so on, these institutions can be regulated by the State , including its standard set of MUI .

For NU, Halal certification protects consumers and producers. For manufacturers, Halal certification is even useful for the promotion of their products to millions of consumers who are mostly Muslims.

With the pending of the JPH bill, it is increasingly delaying public service halal consumers to obtain information as soon as possible. As a result , consumers still eat foods that are uncertain whether they are halal or not. (L/P015/P04/E01)
