“If the Takfiri terrorists had achieved victory in Syria, we would have all been eliminated; not the party, not the resistance”we would all have been eliminated,” Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah stated during a televised speech on Saturday.

He said Hezbollah got involved in the war in Syria one and a half years ago when extremist militants were meters away from the shrine of Sayyeda Zainab (PBUH), the Prophet Mohammad’s granddaughter.

The leader of the Lebanese resistance movement noted that the shrine of Sayyeda Zainab (PBUH) is revered by both Shia and Sunni Muslims worldwide, according to a Press TV report quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

He, however, criticized Turkey for threatening to enter the war for a flimsy excuse to save the shrine of Suleyman Shah, the grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire who is hardly known by any Muslim.

Nasrallah said when war broke out in Syria, Hezbollah backed political dialog to end the conflict, but that never happened as the Arab League preferred a military solution.

He said some Arab states funded and equipped the militants with arms to topple the Syrian government, but now after three years some Arab League members are blacklisting the same militants for the fear that they would destroy their countries once the war in Syria ends.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. Reports say some 140,000 people have so far been killed and millions displaced because of the foreign-backed crisis.

The Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria, according to reports. (T/E01/IR)
