Aceh Jaya, MINA – A magnitude 5.9 earthquake shook the Aceh region on Sunday morning. The tremor occurred at approximately 06:37 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), with the epicenter located at sea, southwest of Aceh Jaya Regency.
Data released by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) indicates the epicenter was situated about 68 kilometers southwest of Calang, Aceh Jaya. The earthquake was recorded at coordinates 4.56 degrees North Latitude and 94.97 degrees East Longitude.
The BMKG recorded the earthquake’s hypocenter at a depth of approximately 26 kilometers. Because the epicenter was located at sea, the tremors were felt across several areas in Aceh.
Shaking was reported in Aceh Besar, Banda Aceh, West Aceh, South Aceh, Pidie Jaya, Bener Meriah, Nagan Raya, Central Aceh, and Sigli.
