ISRAELI OCCUPATION SOLDIER COMMITS SUICIDE IN GAZA BORDER

Gaza, 23 Ramadan 1435/21 July 2014 (MINA) Israeli occupation military announced that one of its soldiers commit suicide on the border of northern Gaza Strip, on Saturday local time.

Israeli media Chanel 2 said the soldier was on duty in northern border, shot himself in his head with his personal weapon.

“The victim was severely wounded in the head, and was rushed to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba. He died on the way to the hospital,” the media reported.

Up to now, no clear reason for his suicide. Strong allegations emerged, the army officer felt depressed by the fighting against Gaza resistance fighters that has not been finished yet, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) correspondent reported from the Gaza Strip.

Israeli security forces are still investigating the causes of the suicide cases, without giving identity and further details.

Suicide Cases

The incident added to a long line of suicide cases by Israeli soldiers. In the last ten years, it has grown up to 279 people.

Statistics shows the number of suicides in 2007 (17 cases), 2008 (23 cases), 2009 (20 cases), 2010 (28 cases), 2011 (20 cases), 2012 (14 cases). While in 2013 and 2014 only one case was reported.

According to a research, there are many cases of suicide among soldiers and Israeli citizens which are not published in the media. The report added that the suicide cases occurred among Israeli youth who were forced to enter military training as a reserve soldier in the battlefield.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz noted in a special report, the number of suicides in the ranks of the Israeli occupation army, is the largest mortality compared with other causes of death.

According to the Israeli Occupation Ministry of Health official data, there are at least 5,000 Israelis tried to commit suicide every year. (L/K01/P03/P04/E01).
