ISLAMIC CONFERENCE OF CULTURE MINISTERS ENDORSES APPOINTMENT OF CONSULTATIVE COUNCIL MEMBERS

Muscat, 22 Muharram 1436/4 November 2015 (MINA) – The 9th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers, currently being held in the Omani capital of Muscat, has endorsed the appointment of members of the Consultative Council in charge of implementing the cultural strategy for the Islamic world for a two-year term.

The Council consists of the following representatives of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC): Kuwait, Palestine, Mauritania, Mali, Guinea, Nigeria, Indonesia, Azerbaijan and Bangladesh, in addition to the ex-officio members, namely Oman, chair of the 9th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers; Saudi Arabia, host country of the OIC; Morocco, host country of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO); Senegal, president of the OIC Standing Committee for Information and Cultural Affairs (COMIAC); the OIC General Secretariat, and ISESCO which carries out the functions of the Secretariat of the Council.

The Conference also invited the member states to appoint their representatives in the Council, IINA News quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

The 9th session of the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers (ICCM) will be held on November 2 to 4 in Muscat, Oman.

According to IINA, the conference will be organized by The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Culture of Oman and the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

“Towards a Middle Stance Culture Favoring Muslims Societies’ Development” is the theme of this edition of the conference.

ISESCO held the first session of the Conference in Dakar, Republic of Senegal, in January 1998; the second in Rabat, Morocco, in November 1998; the third in Doha, Qatar, in December 2001, the fourth in Algiers, Algeria, in December 2004; the fifth in Tripoli, Libya, in November 2007; the sixth in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, in October 2009, the seventh in Algiers, in December 2011, and the 8th in Medina, Saudi Arabia, in January 2014.(T/R05/R03)
