Indonesian Halal Agency Ready to Conduct Certification

Jakarta, MINA – Eleven Leaders of State Ministries and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) agreed that the compulsory service of Indonesian halal product certificates is carried out by Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) of Ministry of Religion starting on Thursday, October 17.

The agreement was marked by the signing of Memorandums of Understanding at the Vice President’s Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 16.

Minister of Religion, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said in the history of Indonesia, the first time halal product guarantee was held by the state. Previously, the guarantee for halal products carried out by MUI.

“Guaranteed halal products are not a form of state discrimination against the public in religious life. In fact, the administration of JPH by the government is a presence of the state in carrying out the mandate of the constitution,” said Lukman.

According to him, the halal mandatory has implications that are not simple. Many parties are involved. Therefore, it needs to be handled appropriately and gradually.

“Muslims need legal certainty for the products consumed. There is a need for assurance of the halal products. Consumers must prepare the correct information about halal. The state is obliged to serve, “he added. (T/Sj/P2)
