Indonesian Embassy Respects Malaysian Legal System in Handling Kim Jong-nam Murder Case

Indonesia’s Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia Andreano Erwin

Sepang, 03 Jumadil Akhir 1438/02 March 2017 (MINA) – Indonesia respects Malaysia’s legal system in the handling of North Korean Kim Jong-nam’s murder case in which one of its nationals has been charged, said an envoy.

Indonesia’s Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia Andreano Erwin was quoted by Bernama as saying that the embassy had appointed a team of lawyers to represent its citizen, Siti Aisyah, in the case.

Siti Aisyah, 25, and Vietnamese national Doan Thi Huong, 29, along with four others still at large, were charged today with the murder of Kim Chol, 45, at the departure hall of the KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on Feb 13.

Authorities have confirmed that the bearer of the passport with the name Kim Chol is Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Andreano, who was present in the Sepang Magistrate’s Court Wednesday, said Siti Aisyah was not alone in dealing with the case.

“All the people of Indonesia will always be with her, and to respect the local laws (of Malaysia) five attorneys (lawyers) have been appointed to represent her,” he said to reporters after the proceedings.

Andreano said he had also advised Siti Aisyah to take care of her health as he anticipated that the case will take a long time.

Asked whether Siti Aisyah had requested the embassy’s help to meet her family members, Andreano said she did not make such a request as she did not want her family to be upset over her current situation. (T/RS05/RS01)
