Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian national team faced Mozambique in FIFA Matchday 2026 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Tuesday evening.

This was the first meeting in the history of the two countries, with the Garuda National Team wary of the African team’s speed.

Indonesian coach John Herdman deployed a 5-4-1 formation, while Mozambican coach Chiquinho Conde relied on a 4-2-3-1 formation.

In the first four minutes, the Garuda National Team had already created two deadly threats, one of which hit the post in a corner kick scramble.

Kevin Diks’ (2) shot from the right flank sailed wide of the net in the 9th minute.

In the 13th minute, the momentum finally arrived. A through ball to Ole Romeny (10), who was unmarked, sent him racing forward to face the Mozambican goalkeeper.

Romeny coolly skipped past the Mozambican goalkeeper and shot into the net before a defender could interfere with the Indonesian striker.

The home team and fans cheered loudly. The score was 1-0 to Indonesia.

A few minutes later, a corner kick resulted in another goal through a header from Ivar Jenner (18). However, the referee called a foul on the Mozambican goalkeeper.

After trailing 1-0, the players began to come out of the blocks, threatening the Indonesian goal. The Mozambican striker’s duel with goalkeeper Maarten Paes (12) was won by the Dutch goalkeeper from AFC Ajax.

However, Indonesia continued to press at the end of the first half. One golden opportunity was created, but it failed to convert.
