Indonesia Inagurates Waste Power Plant (PLTSa)

Bekasi, MINA – Indonesian Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Mohamad Nasir together with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Head of Technology Assessment and Application Agency (BPPT), Hammam Riza inaugurated Waste Power Plant (PLTSa) Merah Putih Bantargebang.

In a day, DKI Jakarta produces 8,000 tons of garbage, while Bekasi City reaches 1,800 tons. Minister Nasir hopes that PLTSa can become a solution for national waste management in major cities of Indonesia both in DKI Jakarta and Bekasi City.

“DKI Jakarta produces 8,000 tons of garbage every day and Bekasi produces 1,800 tons. So, there are around 10 thousand tons of garbage per day.

“This PLTSa Merah Putih Bantargebang is a ‘pilot project’ so that it is only able to process 100 tons/day, we encourage BPPT to produce technology capable of processing 2,000 to 5,000 tons per day,” Minister Nasir said in Bantargebang, Bekasi, Monday.

Minister Nasir inviteed all parties to change the paradigm. So, it does not only make waste a source of problems that must be disposed of, but makes waste as a commodity. Well managed waste will produce added value, such as electricity that will be produced by PLTSa Merah Putih.

“Waste is considered a commodity. In 2021, if waste management is not carried out seriously and systematically, some cities in Indonesia will experience emergency garbage situations. Therefore, there is a need for waste management technology so that Indonesia is free from rubbish, “Nasir said.
