Gaza, 29 Muharram 1436/12 November 2015 (MINA) – Hamas MP Khalil Al-Hayya said yesterday that the current Palestinian intifada had served to unite the various Palestinian political factions, local media reported.

Remarking on the end of internal political division among Palestinian factions, Al-Hayya said that what is now crucial is to build a united Palestinian leadership.

Al-Hayya’s comments came during an event held in Gaza in support of the current Palestinian intifada in which MPs from all factions, including Hamas, Fatah and the Popular Front took part.

“It is unreasonable that we are united on the ground but we remain disunited in the National Council,” Al-Hayya said. “It is unreasonable to be united and leave Hamas, with its popular depth, out of the political equation,” he added.

He also called for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to form a new National Council that includes all forces of the Palestinian people in case the meeting of the framework leadership failed to take place.

“This is needed in order to steer the national action,” he said. “There is no voice above the voice of the intifada. We are here to support the intifada because it is the natural response to the occupation, the retention of settlement and aggression in Jerusalem.”

He stressed that all Palestinian factions must take part in the intifada; while Arab states should take the initiative to expel their Israeli ambassadors and the unity government should take up its responsibilities towards the Palestinians. (T/P002/R03)
