GERMAN ENVOY SUMMONED FOR CLOSING AFGHAN EMBASSY OVER THREAT

Kabul, 16 Dzulhijjah 1434/21 October 2013 (MINA) – The German ambassador to Afghanistan was summoned by the interior ministry of Afghanistan for closing the embassy over security threats.

The interior ministry of Afghanistan on Sunday announced that Afghan interior ministry met with the German ambassador in his office over inaccurate security threats against the German embassy in Kabul.

Afghan interior minister quoted in a statement issued by the interior ministry media office said, “The interior ministry of Afghanistan call the security threats against the German embassy as baseless,” Khamaa Press reported as monitored by (MINA) Mi’raj News Agency, Sunday (21/10)

Interior Minister, Omar Daudzai said that the inaccurate security threats which led to teh closure of the German embassy in Kabul is unacceptable to the interior ministry of Afghanistan.

Mr. Daudzai further added that the Afghan police forces are capable to thwart any threats against the diplomatic institutions in the country, and there are no concerns in this regard.

The German ambassador to Afghanistan also praised the Afghan interior ministry and Afghan police forces for ensuring better security of the German embassy in Kabul.

Germany temporarily closed it’s embassy in capital Kabul and suspended it’s operations due to serious security threats, a spokesman for the foreign ministry of Germany said.

The security threat was reportedly issued by German secret service (BND) and warned the the foreign ministry of Germany regarding the risk of a terrorist attack by Islamists in Kabul.

Germany is the third largest troops contributor to NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan. It has deployed around 4,000 troops in Afghanistan which are mainly based in northern Afghanistan. (T/P012/E1)
