Cairo, 3 Jumadil Awwal 1435/4 March 2014 (MINA) – Giza’s prosecution has ordered the release of 29 students who were detained while protesting on 25 January to mark the third anniversary of the 2011 uprising.

The students were arrested in clashes that ensued between demonstrators and security forces in the central Cairo district of Dokki. They were accused of attacking security forces, Egypt’s Ahram reported as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA), on Tuesday (4/3).

On Sunday, Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim met with representatives from the Egyptian Student Union (ESU) who asked him to release the detained students.

After Sunday’s meeting, ESU head Mohamed Badran said that Ibrahim had promised to release those students “not involved in any criminal activity.”
