DPR, PUIC TO HOST PARLIAMENTARY INTERFAITH DIALOG

     Jakarta, 2 Muharram 1434/16 November 2012 (MINA) – The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) and the Parliamentary Union of OIC member states (PUIC) are to host Parliamentary Interfaith Dailog in the resort island of Bali on November 21-24, 2012.

     The forum organizers told MINA, here, on Friday, the event is the forum where parliamentarians among countries of different regions and faiths are to address both policy and perspectives on how to promote interfaith cooperation and protect human rights.

     The forum, to be attended by participants, speakers and panelists from Indonesia, Australia, Eropean Union and Middle East and Asian countries, will discuss three major themes, viz. religion and sosial problems, Parliament and Universal Ethics of Interfaith Cooperation and State and Religion: Learning the Best Practices in Building the Trust and Cooperation among Religions.

     The Parliamentary Interfaith Dialog in Bali is held pursuant to UN General Assembly Resolution on World Interfaith Harmony on October 20, 2012 where it had outlined importance of mutual understanding and interreligious as the dimension of the culture of peace.

     The organizers say it is held in the consideration the parliament represent the people and stakeholder to promote interfaith dialogue. Parliament and parliamentarians, therefore represent their ideological views that can differ one to another, still it provides space to build an understanding among their different views.
     It is also in line with the spirit of PUIC resolution on Supporting Efforts to Establish Sustainable Dialogue Between Muslim and Western Parliaments in Order to Eliminate All Forms of Intolerance, Negative Stereotyping, and Stigmatization of, and Discrimination, adopted at the 7th PUIC Conference in Palembang, Indonesia, January 2012.
