DETERMINATION OF THE FIRST DAY OF RAMADAN WILL BE HOLD THIS EVENING

Jakarta, 29 Sha’ban 1434 / July 8, 2013 (MINA) – Dewan Hisab dan Rukyat (DHR/hisab and rukyat council) Jama’ah Muslimin (Hizbollah) will do rukyatul hilal (seeing new moon of Ramadhan) on Monday afternoon 29 Sha’ban 1434 / 8 July 2013, to define the beginning of Ramadan.

DHR Secretary Wahyu Iwa Sumantri said, seeing moon is according to guidance of Allah and His Messenger.

“Do Fasting with a look at the moon, and eat or pray eid if you see the moon,” quoting the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) about rukyatul hilal command.

DHR will do rukyatul hilal in several places in Indonesia, Malaysia, Yemen, Sudan, Palestine and Saudi Arabia. And they also monitor news if there is a crescent sighting in other countries.

On the same day, Monday (8/7), the Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold a hearing ithbat (fixing) the beginning of Ramadan 1434H.

Head of Information and Public Relations Zubaidi, explained that through the Directorate of Islamic Affairs and Islamic Guidance, Ministry of Religious Affairs has prepared the team for rukyat in all regions in Indonesia.

Zubaidi ensure that the results will be delivered directly to the public on Monday night.

“Hopefully, at 19:45 pm, the hearing will be finished, so the announcement of the 1^st day of Ramadhan 1434 can be delivered to the public,” Zubaidi said.

Meanwhile Muhammadiyah Central Executive has determined that 1 Ramadan 1434 will be on Tuesday (9/7).

Muhammadiyah using the calculation (Reckoning) that on Monday (8/7) will form the new moon (Wujudul Hilal) of Indonesian region, because ijtima ahead of Ramadan in 1434, will take place on Monday (8/7) starting at 14:15:55 PM.

Other organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), as reported by their online media, based on the results of various methods of reckoning, the beginning of Ramadan in 1434 will be on Wednesday, 10 July 2013. But the certainty of a new beginning of the month of Ramadan will be determined after rukyat on Monday (8/7). (L/P05/R1/E1)
