CONFERENCE ON ISLAMIC ECONOMIES STARTS IN ISTANBUL

Istanbul, 4 Dzulqa’dah 1434/10 September 2013 (MINA) – The ninth international Conference on Islamic Economies and Finance (ICIEF) started Monday in Turkey’s Istanbul with the participation of Turkish and foreign academicians and directors of related institutions.

The Ninth ICIEF  is jointly organized by the Statistical, Economic & Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group through its Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), the International Association for Islamic Economics (IAIE), and the Qatar Foundation’s Hamad Bin Khalifa University through its Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) as well as with the support of other stakeholders.

The Conference will provide a platform for dialogue and discussions between policy-makers, academicians, researchers, graduate students, and practitioners to address the problems of poverty alleviation, inclusive economic growth, and macroeconomic stability from the perspective of the Islamic economics and finance discipline.

The Conference will be held Monday and Tuesday in various sessions under the theme “Growth, Equity and Stability: An Islamic Perspective”.

The First Conference in the series was held in Makkah Al Mukaramah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1976 under the auspices of King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah and it marked the start of development of Islamic economics and finance as modern scientific disciplines.

The main topics of the event will be: “Growth, Equity and Stability: the Islamic vision” and “Sustainable finance and sustainable development”.
 
In general, topics on “Islamic economy and the impact of its content on development of the ECO countries”, “Commerce and Trade expressions in the Holy Qur’an”, “Development Index: a detailed review of the measurement of human capital development”, “Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and the Arab Spring”, “Islamic business ethics and values”, “Corporate Social Responsibility”, “Corporate Governance” and etc are planned to be discussed during the event.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul and a number of senior officials, the Istanbul Stock Exchange’s officials, the leadership of Banks Association of Turkey, MUSIAD, professors of a number of universities of the United Kingdom and the United States (Durham, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Rice) will make speeches at the forum. (T/P08/P04)
