BRITISH CHARITY SUPPORTS NEEDY STUDENTS IN JORDAN
Amman, 15 Ramadhan 1434/23 July2013 (MINA) – British charity Interpal (the Palestinian Relief and Development Fund) has distributed financial support to 300 needy university students in Jordan as part of its Ramadan education aid programme.
The assistance was distributed at a ceremony at the prestigious Martyr King Abdullah Mosque in Amman under the patronage of Jordan’s Minister of Religious Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the MEMO Middle East Monitor (MEMO) reported from Amman as monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).
Dr Mohammad Nouh Al-Qudah. A number of prominent local figures attended the event along with parliamentarians and representatives of other NGOs and Jordanian institutions.
In his speech, Dr Al-Qudah praised the projects funded by Interpal, describing them as the keys of humanitarian giving which distinguishes the Islamic world.
They demonstrate a commitment to Jordan’s ideology and values, said the minister.In response, Interpal’s director in Amman, Ahmad Ibrahim, noted that this is the fourth consecutive year that the British charity has implemented this project.
The aid, he pointed out, helps students in need to cover tuition fees and is part of Interpal’s programme to boost the intellectual opportunities for young people in its areas of operation.
He explained to the audience that Interpal provides assistance for needy individuals and unprivileged communities in education, health care and development across Jordan, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Expressing her appreciation on behalf of her fellow students, Sonia Abu Qarnol said that such charitable acts contribute towards their understanding of the concept of humanitarian aid.
Ms Abu Qarnol, who is blind, stressed that such financial assistance is important for those who struggle to cover their study expenses. (T/P012/E1)
