BOMB EXPLODES NEAR EGYPT INTERIOR MINISTER’S CONVOY
Cairo, 28 Shawwal 1434/5 September 2013 (MINA) – A bomb detonated near the convoy of Egypt’s Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim in northeast Cairo early on Thursday (5/9).
The explosion took place near the minister’s residence in the capital’s Nasr City district, officials told Ahram Online as monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).
Earlier reports said the blast resulted from a car bomb, but state TV said that the bomb was thrown by unknown assailants from a nearby building.
The minister is unhurt but at least seven, including a child, were injured in the attack, according to Egypt’ Ambulance Authority.
The building from which the bomb was dropped was pinpointed and investigations are underway, state TV added.
The capital’s Nasr City area has been the stronghold of a major protest camp by loyalists of Egypt’s toppled president Mohamed Morsi, when a deadly raid by police to clear the protest camps in Cairo and Giza mid-August left hundreds dead and thousands injured as well as arrested.
Meanwhile, Politican observer Ibrahim Rantau said the political map of the conflicts in Egypt has changed, and it seems likely to return to the old regime following Cairo court decision to free former President Hosni Mubarak.
“Map of the conflict in Egypt has changed, at the beginning there was a liberal nationalist party against Islam became the military regime under Mubarak with pro-Revolution in 2011.
Cairo criminal court decided to ‘clean up’ the name of Mubarak from corruption allegation using state money for personal gain, which involves his two sons Alaa and Gamal, where the court determines both of them remain in detention.
According to Ibrahim, who had been living in Egypt, there are two possible scenarios related to the Mubarak release. First, it will lure back the revolution movements in 2011 as demanding the ouster of Mubarak as president. Second, there may be no any movement at all, because people may have been tired with the various things going on in Egypt, where people began pessimistic about the future though they wanted freedom from the repressive regime.(T/P03/P04)
