US Designates Iraq, Indonesia-Based Militants as Terrorists

Washington, 18 Ramadan 14338/13 June 2017 (MINA) – The US on Monday added two Iraq-based senior leaders of the so-called Islamic State (IS) to its terror list, as well as an Indonesia-based group linked to the Al-Nusra Front.

Marwan Ibrahim Hussayn Tah Al-Azawi is believed to develop chemical weapons for IS, while Attallah Salman ‘Abd Kafi Al-Jaburi is said to be in charge of factories producing improvised explosive devices, KUNA reported, citing State Department.

The Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia (MMI) conducted attacks in Indonesia, “including claiming responsibility for a May 2012 attack at the book launch of Canadian author Irshad Manji,” the State Department said.

As a consequence of these designations, US citizens and residents are prohibited from engaging in transactions or dealings with these parties, and all of their property and interests subject to US jurisdiction are frozen. (T/RS5/RS1)
