500 WOMEN VOLUNTEERS GET READY FOR WORK IN THE GRAND MOSQUE

       Makkah, 4 Ramadan 1434/12 July 2013 (MINA) – A number of women volunteers get ready for work in the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Thursday.

      The volunteers, who are part of a 500-member team assigned to work in the women’s sections of the holy mosque, will work under the Red Crescent Authority to provide first aid to worshipers who may be suffering from low blood sugar levels, high blood pressure and other ailments, the Saudi Gazette quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

      Last month, about 300 female volunteers specializing in various medical and nursing professions have registered their particulars on the Saudi Red Crescent website.

     They will offer voluntary emergency services in the prayer section reserved for women at the Grand Mosque. The team is called Rafeedah volunteer team.

     Sana Fadhil, the team chief, said that he team seek the involvement of a larger number of female volunteers.

     “We are placing ads and calls for help in hospitals and social networks,” Fadhil said.

     In previous years, pushing old men and women is one of the services offered by youths working for the Veneration of Haram City Project in different parts of the holy city. They also distribute free iftar meals to help people break their fast and administer first aid if needed.

      Elderly pilgrims have said they are impressed by the dedicated services of youth volunteers who push wheelchairs at the Grand Mosque in Makkah during Ramadan.

     On a different note, Mohammad Tawfiq Madani the head of roads and transport management in Makkah Province has revealed plans to construct a highway connecting Makkah to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

     “The first phase of the project, costing SR150 million, has been accomplished. The project’s second phase, worth SR300 million, will start as soon as a contractor is found,” Madani said, local newspapers reported.

      Madani said another project, the Briman road connecting Jeddah to Makkah from the north, is nearing completion.

     Madani outlined other upcoming projects including the renovation of Al-Khawajat road, the construction of train stations across Makkah, Jeddah, Madinah, and Rabigh, the installation of street lights on the expressway connecting Makkah to Madinah via Taif and the implementation of a budget for the construction of Al-Kar road.  (T/P09/E1).
