11 Palestinian MPs Detained in Israeli Jails

Ramallah, 22 Jumadil Akhir 1438/21 March 2017 (MINA) – The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have notably escalated their attacks against Palestinian MPs since the start of 2017, most recently was the arrest of the MP Mohamed al-Tal at dawn Tuesday, a rights group revealed.

MP al-Tal’s arrest has brought the total number of Palestinian MPs held in Israeli custody to 11, the Palestine center for prisoners studies said, the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported.

Spokesman for the center Riyad al-Ashqar pointed out that al-Tal spent ten years in Israeli jails mostly in administrative detention.

Al-Tal suffers many health problems including diabetes, hypertension, and tachycardia, he continued.

Since the beginning of the year, Israeli forces arrested five Palestinian MPs bringing the overall number of MPs held in Israeli jails to 11.

Al-Ashqar stressed that the 11 freely-elected MPs are held in Israeli jails without any legal basis in total violation of international laws, calling on parliaments around the world to intervene for their immediate release.(T/R04/RS5)
