Three Militants, Two Soldiers Killed in Jammu, Kashmir, Police Says

New Delhi, MINA – Two soldiers and three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian police said Sunday.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) said quoting Director General of Police SP Vaid that two soldiers lost their lives and three others were injured while three militants were killed in an encounter which took place Zainapora in Shopian yesterday.

The security forces had launched a search and cordon operation in Avneera village of Zainapora area following intelligence inputs about the presence of the militants there.

Heavy exchange of fire took place, with two out of the five soldiers injured in the encounter died in a military hospital.

The Indian forces resumed the operation in the morning and killed all three militants whose affiliation is still being ascertained. (T/RS5/RS1)
