Volunteers of Food Flotilla For Myanmar Watch Documentary on Rohingya Refugees Aboard Nautical Aliya

Aboard Nautical Aliya in Andaman,Sea,  8 Jumadil Awwal 1438/6 February 2017 (MINA) – The volunteers of The ‘Food Flotilla For Myanmar’ aboard MV ‘Nautical Aliya’, which departed from Malaysia on January 6 for Myanmar, watched on Monday a documentary film about the Rohingya refugees.

Deputy Chief of Mission Food Flotilla For Myanmar Mohd. Azmi Abdul Hamid said in his introductory remarks before the film started that the screening program was aimed at providing education and guidance to the volunteers.

“We provide education and knowledge related to the Rohingya for being analyzed  later by all the volunteers,” said Azmi who is also president of the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organization (MAPIM).

In this film, he added, is shown how the actual conditions affecting the Rohingya, both in Myanmar, as well as those who fled to Bangladesh.

“I hope you can feel what is going on there, so we know the objectives of the Food Flotilla,” he said.

One of the films screened entitled, “Rohingya, The World’s Most Forgotten People” describes how difficult the lives of ethnic Rohingya refugees in the camps.

Some volunteers who could not withstand the emotion became to cry while watching a film made by the  Media Unit (MMU) of the MAPIM.

Food Flotilla for Myanmar is a humanitarian program for oppressed Rohingya Muslims is initiated by MAPIM and Kelab Putra 1 Malaysia, in collaboration with 31 NGOs from 11 countries made up of activists, health professionals, journalists, security, and the crew.

The mission is sailing through the Andaman Sea to travel back and forth voyage for approximately 20 days carrying 2,300 tonnes of aid such as rice, instant noodles, ready meals, toiletries, clothing, as well as blankets to be given to tens and even hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees in Sitwee and Teknaf on the border of Bangladesh.

Participated in this cruise Indonesian representative of the Institute are the Indonesia’s Aqsa Working Group (AWG), Syubban/Youth Jama’ah Muslimin (Hizbullah), Youth Communications Agency Indonesian Mosque Youth (BKPRMI), the Malay World Islamic World (DMDI), also Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA)’s journalists.   (L/R04/RS05)
