Gaza, MINA – The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution to renew the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for another three years. The vote, held on Friday, saw 151 countries in favor, 10 against, and 14 abstentions.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini welcomed the decision, stating on social media platform X that it reflects the broad solidarity of people across the world with Palestine Refugees.
He emphasized that the renewal acknowledges the international community’s responsibility to support the humanitarian and development needs of Palestinian refugees until a lasting solution is achieved. Lazzarini further called for the decision to be backed with sufficient resources to fulfill the agency’s mandate.
Established over 70 years ago, UNRWA provides assistance to Palestinians displaced from their land. The agency has recently faced severe financial difficulties following allegations by Israel that some of its staff were involved in the October 7 attacks.

Despite UNRWA’s requests for evidence supporting these claims, Israel has not provided a response. The accusations led several major donor countries, including the United States, to suspend or pause their funding.[]
