TURKISH FM DISCUSSES EMBASSY ATTACK WITH US OFFICIALS

Munich, 23 Rabiul Awwal 1434 H/4 February 2013 (MINA) – Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu discussed the suicide attack on US Embassy in Ankara with Joe Biden during his bilateral talks within the scope of the 49th International Munich Conference, according to Anadolu Agency (AA) reports monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), Monday.

Davutoglu and US Vice President Joe Biden discussed the attack on the embassy as well as Turkish-US relations and recent regional matters. Meanwhile, Davutoglu also spoke with US Secretary of State John Kerry on the phone, and expressed sorrow over the embassy attack.

Davutoglu told Kerry that Turkey was in full solidarity with the US against terrorism, adding that close cooperation between the two countries would continue. Kerry also expressed sorrow over the incident, and thanked Turkish officials for the cooperation.

Davutoglu also met Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Munich Conference, and they discussed the recent regional developments.

A suicide blast on Friday at a checkpoint outside the US Embassy compound killed the bomber and a security guard, while wounding a Turkish journalist. Ankara Governor’s Office stated on Saturday that six kg of TNT explosives caused the blast.
The suicide bomber, identified as Ecevit Sanli, was a member of DHKP-C terrorist organization. DHKP-C is an outlawed leftist group in Turkey, DHKP-C was responsible for the attack. The group recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the European Union.

Moreover, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan ruled out possibility that Friday’s deadly suicide bombing at the US Embassy in Turkey was linked to the situation inSyria.
“I don’t reach to a conclusion that this incident is related with Syria,” Erdogan told a televised interview on private Haberturk channel.
Erdogan sent a message to US President Barack Obama, expressing sadness over the deadly suicide bomb attack on the US Embassy in the Turkish capital. “The terrorist act on the US Embassy is also an attack on Turkey.

This incident has shown that the continuation and strengthening of the existing partnership between Turkey and the US against terrorism is crucial,” Erdogan said in his message.(T/P05/E1)
