Turkey Continues To Shell PYD Positions In Syria's Azaz

Kilis, Turkey, 11 Jumadal Awwal 1437/19 February 2016 (MINA) – Turkish military is continuing to shell PYD positions in Syria’s Azaz district located in the northern countryside of Aleppo, Turkish security sources confirmed to Anadolu Agency Thursday.

PYD is the Syrian affiliate of the terrorist PKK organization, which has targeted security forces as well as civilians in Turkey since 1984.

The latest round of shelling comes a day after a deadly bomb attack killed 28 people and injured dozens others in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Anadolu Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Turkish military has been shelling PYD and PKK positions in northern Syria intermittently for six consecutive days in retaliation to artillery fire from PYD forces based around Azaz. Turkish security sources said artillery shells began pounding Azaz again Thursday evening.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said evidence provided by Turkey’s Interior Ministry pointed to the terrorist PKK and PYD organizations as the culprit for Wednesday’s Ankara bombing.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said YPG — the armed wing of the PYD group — is a pawn of the Syrian regime and held the regime directly responsible for the Ankara attack. (T/P010/R07)
