Trump’s Victory Will Not Affect Palestinians, Say Analysts

Ramallah, 10 Safar 1438/10 November 2016 (MINA) – Several Palestinian political analysts expressed on Wednesday their hopes and fears at the same time over the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential elections, WAFA reported.

Samir Awad, a professor of political science at Birzeit University, said the election of Trump will not affect the Palestinian cause, adding that Palestine will not gain or lose from Trump’s victory. He said the US political decisions are governed by certain balances and guidelines that do not allow the president to consider a major shift in policy.

Awad ascertained that Trump succeeded in taking advantage of campaign elections, even what was used against him. He was able to reach the workers when he promised to being US investments back to the United States, a step none of the other candidates was able to benefit from.

He said Trump’s frequent attacks against migrants do not really threaten US citizens already on US soil but rather reflect the everyday debate among the American people.

Munther Dajani, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Al-Quds University, said he believes that Trump has managed to maneuver through a brilliant policy and that he understood the US media better than his rivals.

Dajani described Trump as a prominent figure in US society who succeeded in provoking the American people to win the support of those eager for change. He said the absence of bad political relations helped him to win the votes of the Americans who knew him as a businessman, not as a politician.

He said the US policy is not directed by individuals, adding that Trump will start attending meeting that will introduce him to US internal and foreign policy, including its economic factor

Trump understands the behavior of Americans

Amin Abu Eisheh, a financial and economic analyst, said Trump understood the behavior of the American voter and used it to trigger debate to attract the highest number of voters from outside the Democrat party.

He said Trump’s victory is a political and economic victory for the US and his words to certain sectors in the society has actually helped him win.

Abu Eisheh added that the economic factors play a significant role in deciding who will win for those interested in internal affairs, more so than foreign policy.
