Washington, MINA – US President Donald Trump said on Monday that targeting Iran’s infrastructure was justified, describing Iranians as “animals” in response to a journalist’s question about whether such attacks could constitute a war crime, Middle East Monitor reported.
Asked how targeting Iranian infrastructure would not be considered a war crime, Trump replied bluntly: “Because they’re animals.”
He then turned the question back on the journalist, adding: “Do you know what a war crime is? A war crime is letting Iran have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with the Iranian government and warned that it would “pay a heavy price.” In further remarks, he claimed that the Iranian people become “upset” when they do not hear the sound of bombs, stating: “They want to hear the bombs because they want freedom.”

The comments drew sharp reactions from human rights advocates and international law experts, who have condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure as a potential violation of the Geneva Conventions. The White House has not issued additional clarification on the president’s statements.[]
