Trump Claims US Captured Venezuelan Leader Maduro in Large Scale Strike

Washington, MINA – US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the United States conducted a “large scale strike” against Venezuela, claiming that President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of the country, Anadolu Agency reported.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.”

Trump said the operation was conducted “in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement” and that further details would be released later. He announced a news conference on the matter at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

In a brief phone interview with the New York Times, Trump praised the operation, calling it “brilliant” and crediting “a lot of good planning and lot of great, great troops and great people.”

US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau declared on social media that “A new dawn for Venezuela! The tyrant is gone. He will now, finally face justice for his crimes.”

CBS News, citing officials, reported that the elite US Army Delta Force carried out the operation to capture Maduro. US Senator Mike Lee stated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed him Maduro had been arrested to stand trial on US criminal charges.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez responded by saying authorities were “unaware” of Maduro’s whereabouts and demanded “proof of life” from the US. The operation follows longstanding US accusations against Maduro, including drug trafficking. In November, the US formally designated Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles, which Rubio has linked to Maduro, as a foreign terrorist organization.[]
