SAUDIS USE RELIGION AS SCREEN BASICALLY FOR POLITICAL POWER

An analyst says Saudis are using religion as a screen to inflate their politico-economic sway./Press TV PhotoRiyadh, 17 Jumadil Awwal 1435/18 March 2014 (MINA) – Saudis are using religion as a screen to inflate their economic and political sway in the region, an American analyst tells Press TV.

“Saudis are using the religion as a screen, basically for just economic and political power,” Jim W. Dean said in an interview with Press TV on Monday as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

He added that the “serious consequences” of the Syrian crisis are going to boomerang as the West’s reputation of any type of advancement in freedom and democracy is being completely destroyed and seen as a tool to achieve its own economic interests.

“So, everybody is exploiting religion for their own greed and this could backfire on Saudi Arabia,” the commentator pointed out.

He said the US and its cronies are okay with the suffering and the killing of the Syrian people “as long as they get what they want, which is to basically have control over these regions and have puppet governments put in place.”

Since March 2011, Syria has been witnessing violence as the country’s army continues to fight with foreign-backed militants.

More than 130,000 people have reportedly been killed as a result of this violence in Syria. A recent report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said nearly 2.5 million Syrians have now registered as refugees with UNHCR in neighboring countries in the Middle East.
