Students Again Hold Demonstration at Parliament Building

Jakarta, MINA – Thousands of masses from various groups of students and workers continued to hold a further demonstration around Indonesian Parliament building (DPR), Senayan Complex, Jakarta on Monday, September 30. As a result, the inner city highway, in front of the DPR building was completely paralyzed.

Based on monitoring of MINA reporters at the location, the mass began to move since afternoon around 04:00 p.m. local time. The demonstration, which was initially peaceful, turned violent when several provocateurs threw stones at officers, who then responded with tear gas.

The crowd was in a mess towards the expressway in the city. Initially, the traffic on the inner-city highway was not yet closed by the police. However, so many people scattered, the vehicle traffic was stopped until nightfall.

As of 6:00 pm, there were still many buses and other vehicles detained, unable to move in the middle of protesters who were pouring into the inner city highway.

The masses demanded that the criminal code proposal (RKUHP) be canceled, the revocation of the ratified Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law, until the release of students, who were now detained at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

The action was centered on three points around the DPR building, namely around Guda Pemuda Street, Senayan, Slipi flyover, Gatot Subroto Street, and behind the capitol building, Palmerah. (T/Sj/P2)
