Shooting Attack Sheikh Aidh Al-Qarni injured, Five Bodyguards Killed

20160301084043Zamboanga City, Philippines, 23 Jumadal Awwal 1437/March 2, 2016 (MINA) – Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that the Ulema of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Dr. Aidh Al-Qarni injured, and five bodyguards were killed in a Zamboanga City, Philippines shooting attack .

The incident occurred after he lectured from his one of the best-selling book Entitled “Do not Be Sad” at Garden Orchid Convention Center, Philippines.

The cleric, who has over 12 million followers on Twitter, is being treated in hospital along with Sheikh Turki Assaegh, who is a preacher and an official with the Saudi embassy in the Philippines.

According to the statement announced by the embassy, Al-Qarni was on a visit to the Philippines, at a personal invitation from a religious association, in Zamboanga. The embassy, immediately, embarked in coordination with the competent authorities in the Philippines, to investigate into the incident, and also sent a private jet to transport him and his entourage to the capital Manila, to complete medical check up.

Saudi Ambassador to the Philippines made a telephone call to Sheikh Aidh Al-Qarni, was reassured of his good health and, thankfully, none of his entourage suffered an injury.

The embassy is pursuing the course of investigations with the competent authorities of the Philippines, to determine the circumstances and the circumstances of the incident, noting that security authorities have exchanged fire with the criminal and shot him dead.(T/m09/R07)
