Promoting ASEAN, Indonesia Holds ASEAN-Indonesia Young Ambassadors

Jakarta, MINA – In order to promote and increase public understanding of ASEAN, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the 2019 ASEAN-Indonesia Young Ambassadors Election (DMAI 2019).

DMAI Election aims to find young Indonesian men and women who have broad insights about ASEAN and are interested in promoting ASEAN to the wider community.

The event, which was opened on 15 March 2019, has received 1,031 applicants. From those, 20 selected youths and the three best will be announced on the peak night of 2019 DMAI in Jakarta on Monday, October 14.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi is scheduled to attend and give a speech at the event.

Meanwhile, the Director of ASEAN Socio-Cultural Cooperation, Riaz Januar Putra Saehu, said that the understanding of ASEAN in community must be recognized as relatively lacking.

“We hope that the Young Ambassadors can really help the efforts in promoting ASEAN to the wider community and various opportunities,” Riaz Saehu said during a media gathering in Jakarta on Thursday, October 10.

Since it was held in 2007, as 90 ASEAN Young Ambassadors have been successfully selected. Saehu hopes that they can promote ASEAN both to themselves and the community with their initiatives and programs. (L/Sj/P2)
