Palestinians Hype Jordanian King’s Visit

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed Jordanian King Abdullah II in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah on Monday.

Ramallah, MINA – Jordan’s King Abdullah II’s visit to the occupied West Bank to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was significant “since it comes in the wake of unrest in Al-Aqsa Mosque,” the Palestinian government said on Tuesday.

“The visit is important for the Palestinian people and affirms Jordan’s support of the Palestinian cause,” KUNA reported, quoting a statement by the Palestinian Cabinet in the aftermath of its weekly meeting.

The statement also hailed the Hashemite Kingdom’s “resolute efforts” to stand by the Palestinian people, which it added was a testament to the camaraderie between both nations.

In a rare visit to the West Bank, King Abdullah II met with the Palestinian President on Monday, in an encounter that yielded plans to form a “joint crisis unit,” according to Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Maliki.

This is the Jordanian’s King fifth visit to the West Bank, having last been there in 2012.
