PALESTINIAN TRANSPORTATION AND TELECOMMUNICATION SUFFERS $30 MILLION LOSSES IN WAR

Gaza, 13 Dzulqadah 1435/8 September 2014 (MINA) – Yasir Al Shanti, Deputy Minister of Transportation and Telecommunication said in Gaza on Sunday (7 September 2014) that Palestinian Transportation and Telecommunication sector suffered losses about US$30 million during the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Shanti stated that private transportation suffered the most dramatic impact with total damage reaching more than 3550 vehicles.  About 1173 vehicles had been destroyed completely and about 2380 vehicles had been destroyed partially. The loss is estimated about US$11 million.

Meanwhile Israeli aggression destroyed 160 government vehicles, with details 40 vehicles in total damage and 120 others in slight damage. The loss is estimated about US$2.5 million.
He also explained that the Israeli occupation regime forces have destroyed more than 11 ambulances. About 27 ambulances were in slight damage. Israeli occupation regime also has destroyed more than 150 workshops in Gaza.

Shanti also explained that Israeli occupation regime forces destroyed border crossing facilities in effort to isolate Gaza Strip from outside world. They had destroyed Bayt Hanoun totally. They targeted commercial border crossing, Karim Abu Salim which caused losses more than US$1.5 million.

Israeli aggression in Gaza Strip for 51 day has destroyed various sectors including agricultural sector which suffered losses about US$550 million. The aggression caused 2,145 people killed and more than 11 thousand people injured.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public working and Housing stated that housing sector recorded loss about US$6 billion. (L/K01/P009/P3)
