PALESTINIAN PRISONERS PROTEST ISRAEL’S AGREEMENT VIOLATION

West Bank, , 7 Jumadil Akhir/7 April 2014 (MINA) –  Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation jails decided to begin actions, this week, in protest of Israel’s failure to release a fourth group of veteran prisoners, Palestine’s Qassam reported.

According to the Palestinian official Ziad Abu Ein, the protests would culminate in an open hunger strike if the prisoners’ demands were not met, the Alternative Information (AIC) reports, according to Al-Qassam report quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

From July 2013, Israeli occupation agreed to release in four batches 104 veteran Palestinian prisoners who were held in prison prior to the 1993 Oslo Accords. The releases were part of a plan to resume peace negotiations, after talks were halted for more than two years.

According to the agreement, Israeli occupation was supposed to release the fourth batch of prisoners on March 29.

On Friday, Palestinian activists demonstrated in front of Ofer detention center in Ramallah to protest Israel’s decision to violate the agreement over the prisoners’ release. 

13 demonstrators were injured in clashes with the Israeli occupation forces which erupted during the demonstration. Seven people were injured with live ammunition. (T/Nidiya/P03/E01)
