Gaza, MINA – Just 44 Palestinians managed to leave Gaza through the Rafah crossing on Sunday, as Israel maintains stringent restrictions on movement despite reopening the border post last week. The group included 17 patients and 27 companions, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, as cited by Anadolu Agency.

Israel reopened the Palestinian side of Rafah on Monday, but has allowed only minimal movement under tight control, keeping the crossing operating on a very limited basis. The crossing was closed over the weekend before limited operations resumed.

Since the partial reopening, only small numbers of people have been able to enter or exit Gaza. An estimated 22,000 sick and wounded Palestinians are seeking treatment abroad, while about 80,000 have registered to return home, rejecting displacement despite widespread destruction.

Before the war, hundreds crossed Rafah daily under Palestinian and Egyptian administration, without Israeli involvement. Israel had committed to reopening the crossing under the October 2025 ceasefire but failed to do so until now.

The ceasefire ended a military offensive that killed over 72,000 Palestinians, wounded more than 171,000, and destroyed 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure. However, Israeli violations have continued, with 576 Palestinians killed and 1,543 wounded since the truce began, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.[]
