OIC Strongly Condemns Rafah City Attack

Attack by unidentified gunmen leaves at least 26 soldiers dead or injured in Sinai Peninsula’s northeast, army says.

 

Jeddah, 13 Shawwal 1438/8 July 2017 (MINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned on Friday the terrorist attack in Rafah city in North Sinai, Egypt, which killed and wounded a number of Egyptian military officers and soldiers, KUNA reported.

OIC Secretary General Dr. Yosif Al-Othaimeen, in a statement, expressed his full solidarity with the Egyptian government and armed forces in their “fierce” battle against terrorist and radical groups that target the country’s security and stability, adding that these groups have committed “gruesome” crimes against innocent civilians, police, and military personnel.

He also expressed his confidence in the Egyptian people’s ability to withstand and repel such a terrorist attack, noting that today’s incidents will only boost unity and consolidation among Egyptians in facing and countering terrorism, and protecting their country.

OIC chief also expressed his sincere condolences to the Egyptian leadership, government, and people, praying to Allah Almighty to bestow his mercy upon the deceased victims and inspire their families with patience and solace.

Around 26 Egyptian military personnel were killed or wounded, and at least 40 militants exterminated, as the forces repelled a “terrorist” attack that targeted security checkpoints south of Rafah in North Sinai Governorate. (T/RS5/RS1)
