OIC SECRETARY GENERAL WELCOMES AL-QUDS COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS

Jeddah, 18 Rabi’ual Awwal 1435/20 Januari 2014 (MINA) -The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani stated, Israeli plans to Judaize Al-Quds  should be confronted by taking appropriate legal measures.

The 20th session of the Al-Quds Committee held in Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco, from 16 – 18 January 2014 under the chairmanship of His Majesty King Mohamed VI and the presence of the President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas and foreign ministers of 15 member states of the Committee.

The Secretary General recommended that Israeli plans to Judaize Al-Quds in terms of location, population, culture and society and to divide the Al-Aqsa mosque should be confronted by taking appropriate legal measures against Israel at international legal bodies such as the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.

He also called for greater coordination and concerted efforts among the OIC General Secretariat, the League of Arab States, the Islamic Development Bank, the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency and development agencies of member states to maximize benefit of available capabilities and improve working methods.

The Secretary General also hinted that Israel is expected to spend about US$15 billion until 2020 on its settlement and Judaization of Al-Quds agenda. OIC official media reported quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

The Secretary General welcomed the recommendations of the meeting and emphasized its importance because they were a political statement that affirmed total support for Palestinian rights, especially concerning Al-Quds Al-Shareef and renewed commitment to joint action.

He stated that it was important to begin the implementation of the OIC strategic plan for the development of Al-Quds which was adopted by the 40th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Guinea and the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency and the constitution of the ministerial delegation to deliver the OIC’s message on Al-Quds to the international community.

The Al-Quds Committee meeting also witnessed an interactive session attended by high-level envoys representing the permanent member states of the Security Council, the European Union, the Vatican, the United Nations and the League of Arab States.

Earlier His Majesty King Mohamed VI had received the Secretary General, who together with his accompanying delegation were also received by the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. The Secretary General also met with several foreign ministers who participated in the Committee’s meeting. The OIC Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs, Ambassador Samir Bakr, also participated Committee’s sessions and meetings. (T/P02/P04/mirajnews.com)
