OIC- Germany Hold First Round Of Bilateral Consultations

Jeddah, 30 Jumadil Awwal 1438/28 February 2017 (MINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Germany held their first round of bilateral political consultations at the OIC headquarters on Monday.

The OIC side was led by Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Ambassador Hesham Youssef while the German side was led by Director General for Political Affairs (Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Near and Middle East) Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser, who is also Germany’s special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, IINA News reported.

Prior to the consultations, the German delegation had a courtesy meeting with OIC Secretary General Yousef Al-Othaimeen, who welcomed them and reiterated OIC’s strong interest to engage with Germany in a comprehensive dialogue to strengthen the bilateral cooperation.

Both sides discussed and exchanged views on a wide range of regional and international issues including the developments in the Middle East. The global refugee crisis, humanitarian assistance, terrorism and other issues of mutual interest also figured during the intense and candid discussions.

They also pledged to continue to work jointly on a number of areas, particularly in preventing radicalization, violent extremism and terrorism, as well as promoting science and technology, education and capacity building.

The first round of Germany-OIC bilateral consultations laid the foundation for further collaboration between the two sides in the coming days. These consultations will be held annually, alternating between Berlin and Jeddah.(T/R04/RS05)
