Jeddah, 4 Jumadil Akhir 1438/3 March 2017 (MINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned last Tuesday’s terrorist attacks perpetrated by Ansarul Islam of Ibrahim Malam Dicko against two police stations in the province of Soum, northern Burkina Faso, in which a civilian was wounded and some buildings and vehicles were burned.

OIC Secretary General Yousef Othaimeen indicated that those people who use Islam in a fraudulent way to justify their terrorist acts are criminals who must be pursued and brought to justice for punishment. He pointed out that the principles of Islam are completely contrary to hatred and violence, IINA reported.

Al-Othaimeen expressed his concern over the persistence of such acts at the common borders of Burkina Faso and Mali.

He called on the two countries to better coordinate their counterterrorism efforts in the region, urging for the implementation of the agreement on the creation of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger in order to combat insecurity in the Liptako-Gourma Region.(T/R04/RS05)
