Gaza, MINA – A new group of patients and wounded individuals left the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza on Monday, accompanied by their relatives, heading toward the Rafah land crossing in preparation for transfer to Egypt to continue receiving treatment in its hospitals, according to Palestine Information Center.

Medical sources and paramedics said that around 50 patients and injured individuals, along with their companions, were transported to the crossing as part of ongoing medical evacuation efforts amid severe shortages at healthcare facilities in the Gaza Strip.

In a related development, teams from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society participated on Sunday in a similar evacuation, where 17 patients, accompanied by 33 individuals, departed from the society’s medical rehabilitation hospital in Khan Yunis. The operation was carried out in coordination with the World Health Organization and relevant authorities to transfer them abroad for treatment.

The society confirmed that these efforts are part of its humanitarian mission to secure medical care for cases requiring treatment unavailable in Gaza, especially given the unprecedented pressure on hospitals and the continuous need to refer patients abroad.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health warned of an imminent threat to hospital operations due to the acute shortage of fuel and spare parts needed to run power generators, raising the risk of a complete shutdown in the near future.

This comes amid an unprecedented deterioration of the healthcare sector, caused by the Israeli war since October 2023, which has led to widespread destruction of health infrastructure, compounded by the blockade imposed on the Strip, further deepening the humanitarian crisis and pushing the medical system toward near collapse.[]
