Netanyahu Again Fails to Form New Israeli Government

Jerusalem, MINA – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fails to form new government. His efforts were rejected by opposing party.

Netanyahu has been in power for the past decade but was unable to secure majority of the coalition party votes after September election.

In a video released by him, Netanyahu blamed his political opponents, Benny Gantz, refused to negotiate with him over the possibility of forming a unity government, thus quoted from BBC on Tuesday, October 22.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will give Gantz 28 days to conduct the same negotiations. Rivilin will consult with several Israeli party heads to give credentials to other candidates.

He is expected to give a mandate to Benny Gantz, leader of the Blue and White Party.

Rivlin said he would try to avoid holding elections back in a country that had held elections in two years. If Gantz also fails to form a government, parliament can nominate a third candidate to avoid the next vote.

Last September’s vote showed Netanyahu’s Likud Party won 32 seats and 33 Blue and White Gantz Party. President Rivlin initially chose Netanyahu as the candidate with the best chance to successfully form a coalition.

Responding to Netanyahu’s statement that could not form a government, the Blue and White Party said, “The time for this round has ended and now is the time to act”. (T/Sj/P2)
