NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER ADMITS PEACE EFFORTS WITH TALIBAN STALLED

Kabul, 29 Sha’ban 1434/7 July 2013 (MINA) – National Security Adviser Rangin Dadfar Spanta who was summoned by Afghan parliament along with the foreign minister and secretary of Afghan high peace council revealed that there was no process in Afghanistan.

The officials briefed Afghan lawmakers regarding the Afghan peace process in a session organized behind closed doors, Khaama Press quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Sunday.

A number of the Afghan lawmakers said that Spanta during the session revealed that peace process with the Taliban group was already stalled and there was no process under the name of peace in Afghanistan.

Rangin Dadfar Spanta said that no satisfactory results have been obtained through the current peace efforts and Taliban figures holding talks with high peace council had no influence in Taliban group’s decision.

An Afghan lawmaker Syed Anwar Sadat said national security adviser Rangin Dadfar Spanta claims that current reconciliation efforts will not bring peace in the country.

However Afghan high peace council secretary said that the government is secretly holding talks with the Taliban group members including Syed Tayeb Agha who is the representative of Taliban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar.

In the meantime a number of lawmakers said that there were contradictions between the remarks of foreign minister, high peace council secretary and national security adviser.

Lawmaker Syed Anwar Sadat urged that the activities of Afghan high peace council should be cancelled since the council did not have any satisfactory achievement.

Afghan lawmakers also insisted that the government should consider alternative strategies after senior government officials confirm that peace efforts through Afghan high peace council has failed. (T/P09/E1).
