MYANMAR AND WHO CONSULT ON COOPERATION STRATEGY

Yangon, 23 Rabiul Awwal 1434/ 4 February 2013 (MINA) – Myanmar and the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations held consultation on development of WHO country cooperation strategy Myanmar for next five years from 2013 to 2017, official media reported Monday (4/2).

Myanmar Minister of Health Dr. Pe Thet Khin urged project managers and planners at the consultation meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw Sunday to adjust the cooperation strategy to be compatible with national healthcare plan (2011-2016), envisaging the changes in coming five years, reported the New Light of Myanmar, according to Xinhua reports monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

Meanwhile, Myanmar and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) have also been implementing a four-year country program action plan for 2012- 15 in the cause of reproductive health, booming population, HIV/ AIDS and equality of sex.

The UNFPA was to contribute 29.5 million U.S. dollars under an agreement signed between Myanmar and the UNFPA in July 2012.

Moreover, Myanmar and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also agreed in November 2012 to cooperate further in development of children in the country under a five-year national-level project.

The basic agreement covers young children survival and development, accessibility of water, environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene, access to basic education and gender equality, HIV/AIDS and children, protection of children and education, supervision and assessment of social policy.
