MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD DEPLORES HORRIFIC CHURCH ATTACK

Cairo, 16 Dhul Hijja 1434/21 October 2013 ( MINA ) – The Muslim Brotherhood offers its deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured in this senseless act of violence outside the Coptic Church in the region of Al-Warrak, Giza today.

“We are saddened to see that, far from fulfilling their duty of care, the military backed authorities continue to turn a blind eye to deliberate acts of arson, vandalism and murder. This is a duty of care that every Egyptian has a right to expect regardless of creed or class,” the brotherhood stated in their official website Monday (21/10).

They also said that it is painful to note that Beshay Lotfi, priest of Al-Warrak Church where the attack took place, confirms a total lack of police protection since the 30th of June.

The Muslim Brotherhood deplores all forms of violence and stands in solidarity with all victims of violence and oppression everywhere.

Four people, including a girl aged eight, died when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on a wedding party outside a Coptic Christian church in Cairo, Sunday night (20/10), while dozens other wounded including three muslims.

Security forces in Beheira on Monday arrested a number of suspects believed to have been involved in a fatal attack on a church in a north Cairo neighbourhood which left four dead and dozens injured on Sunday night.

Coptic Christians make up 10 percent of Egypt’s 85 million people, and have generally coexisted peacefully with majority Muslims for centuries.(T/P03/P04)
