Jakarta, MINA – The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, has strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s passage of a law imposing the death penalty on Palestinians, including children, held in Israeli detention.

Sudarnoto stated that the policy represents a new escalation in structural violence that not only wounds the sense of justice but also shakes the global humanitarian conscience. According to him, the move is a clear form of state crime that must become a concern and a common enemy of the international community.

MUI emphasized that this policy cannot be viewed merely as a domestic legal issue, but as a universal humanitarian concern affecting the future of global justice values. When children become targets of death penalty legislation, Sudarnoto said, what is at stake is the world’s moral conscience.

Politically, this policy demonstrates the increasingly extreme and brutal nature of Israel’s repressive approach toward Palestinian civilians. It also reflects the absence of commitment to peaceful solutions and respect for fundamental human rights.

From a diplomatic perspective, the enactment of this law deepens Israel’s moral delegitimacy in the eyes of the world and weakens the peace diplomacy architecture built by the international community, including through the United Nations.

Legally, the policy contradicts the principles of the Geneva Conventions and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which prohibit the death penalty for children and require maximum protection for civilians in conflict zones.

MUI warned that the implementation of this law could drive an increasingly uncontrollable escalation of conflict, undermine trust in international legal and diplomatic mechanisms, and deepen the prolonged humanitarian wound for the Palestinian people.

On this basis, MUI calls on the United Nations to take immediate concrete steps through international legal mechanisms, and urges the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the global community to consolidate political and diplomatic pressure on Israel.
