Mogherini Meets Syrian Opposition Leaders

EU High Representative Federica Mogherini meets with Syrian opposition leaders.

 

Brussels, 10 Rajab 1438/07 April 2017 (MINA) – EU High Representative Federica Mogherini met in Brussels Thursday with Syrian opposition leaders.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition Anas al-Abdah, the Prime Minister of the Syrian Interim Government Jawad About Hatab and the Head of the Assistance Coordination Unit Mouhammad Hassno, and their delegation, KUNA reported, citing a statement released by Mogherini’s office.

It noted that Mogherini discussed with them the practical support the EU can continue to give to the Syrian opposition to accelerate the UN mediated talks in Geneva for a political settlement that can bring about a genuine political transition.

“While stepping up its engagement on the political track, the European Union will continue to improve the daily lives of all Syrians, and stands ready to contribute to the reconciliation and the reconstruction of the country once a political transition will be firmly underway,” it noted.

Today’s meeting comes as a first follow up of the Brussels conference on the future of Syria and the region held on Wednesday. T(/RS5/RS1)
