LEBANON AFFIRMS ARAB MINISTERIAL MEETING NECESSARY FOR AIDING SYRIAN REFUGEES

Beirut, 25 Safar 1434/ 7 January 2013 (KUNA/MINA) – Lebanon affirmed on Monday significance of the Arab ministerial conference due to be held in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Sunday to examine draft plans for alleviating suffering of the Syrian refugees and those who have been relocated and turned homeless due to the ongoing violence.

Lebanon, during the conference, will affirm necessity of cooperation among the Arab states to back up the cause of the refugees that has become a heavy burden for it, said Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said in a statement to KUNA.

The country hosts some 2,000 Syrian refugees; many suffering from shortage of basic supplies and in need for proper housing, particularly now with the country being hit with heavy rain and a wave of cold.

Mansour affirmed that Lebanon possesses limited resources to help these Syrians, thus broad Arab effort is needed to aid them cope with the plight. (T/R-019/R-006)
